At an investment level, we view risk as the possibility of permanent capital loss. Managing against this potential is deeply embedded in our investment approach, beginning with our bottom-up investment criteria. Our risk management team works in conjunction with the trading and research teams to actively monitor and optimize all portfolios to ensure adherence with portfolio guidelines and to manage risk on an ongoing basis at both the individual stock and portfolio level. At an organizational level, risk management is driven by the heads of each department in conjunction with the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, which provides firm-level risk oversight and develops the written policies and procedures that reflect current risk management frameworks and related internal controls.
Our team of four traders span the US and Asia, ensuring that we have active coverage of all market trading hours. An intent focus on best execution informs all our decisions, including broker selection, and drives all our trades. As global markets have evolved to smaller average-trade sizes, higher volumes, venue fragmentation and a more rapid trading dynamic over the past several years, our trading department has focused on maintaining a world-class competency in market microstructure, routing protocols and electronic algorithmic trading. Southeastern is a recognized thought leader on the topic of market structure, and our traders are members of the IEX Trading Advisory Committee, ICI Equity Markets Advisory Committee and Buyside Equity Traders Roundtable.
